This evening sees the lovely dreadeddragon taking over the tongs in the Ground Control galley, and she's got some good food coming our way. I've heard whispered mentions of chicken casserole, salad, carrots, wild rice, and pumpkin bread! Bring a few extra bucks and your appetite.
We're still working out the details on a new monthly schedule, but this evening is standard operating procedures. Food & drink, karaoke and other insanities, you know the drill.

20 years ago, Trent Reznor took advantage of his position as a handyman and janitor at a music studio to record and develop his own music. He played most of the instruments himself, and sequenced it all on a Macintosh Plus. The end result was ‘Pretty Hate Machine’, the album that introduced emotion and catchy riffs to industrial music, and introduced industrial music to a whole new audience. Reznor would go on to become THE voice of the 90s, noisily aggressive and coldly detached, and tortured by betrayal and self-obsession. His influence can be heard in virtually every electro-industrial act that came after him.
In April of 2009, Trent Reznor announced that he was retiring Nine Inch Nails, possibly for good. But we can’t expect him to stay quiet for too long. He has recently released a series of video “jam-sessions” with Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphy, covering influential tracks like Joy Division’s ‘Atmosphere’, the Normal’s ‘Warm Leatherette’, and Lou Reed’s ‘Nightclubbing’. And Gary Numan has announced that he will be working on new music with Trent Reznor next year. NIN is dead – long live Trent Reznor and his incredible music and passion.
Strangelove is every first Friday at the CAT CLUB (Folsom and 8th). With different themes and guests every month, there’s always something new and interesting at Strangelove.

Too much going on for a real update, and yet, so little. Life has taken a stand-still to Clockwork Couture and I struggle daily with the balance of work and family. I did however find two fantastic employees to take over shipping and customer service which has allowed me weekends off. Spent the entire last two weekends with my children out and about and having a great time together. Such a relief...
Sales went beyond October expectations which is just wonderful and then nothing but silence the day before and day after Halloween. Looks like it's picking up again and we expect the Solstice Season to be nuts. Don't know how to break it to the gals I'll be putting cots in the workroom :)
Must find time this week to go shopping for fabric. Our samples are done and I can't wait to unveil the new ensemble we have for CC. It's unlike anything I've ever seen and oh so grand.
We're going to get talked about by press which tickles me fantastic and here is the pic I think I'm going to share with them...
By the always fantastic Tiny Dragon Productions. I can see we'll be working together even more in the future.
Hope everyone had a safe and wonderful Halloween.
I leave you with a giant cicada attacking downtown Burbank, taken by my husband:

8:11p Death makes a holiday..
Repost from various years...
Los Dia de los muertos or the Day of the Dead, is a traditional Mexican holiday honoring the dead. It is celebrated every year along with the Catholic holy days of All Saint's Day and All Souls Day (November 1st & 2nd). The annual festivities associated with Day of the Dead mark a very special occasion where the living have an opportunity to show respect for their deceased relatives. It is believed that on November 1st, the spirits of the dead return to their homes. On Halloween in anticipation of their return elaborate altars are prepared by the deceased's graveside adorned with candles, photographs, flowers, candy skulls, and food. The following day vigils are held at the gravesides with family and friends dancing, singing, praying and drinking. Musicians from the streets dressed as corpses, drummers travel the streets in ghoulish costumes, and dancers perform devil dances to ward off evil. To commemorate the departure of the spirits, family members and friends participated the departure of the spirits, family members and friends participate in the ritual of extinguishing and removing candles from the altars. As respect is paid, so are fond wishes of loved ones past. (c) 2000-2005 Cyndee Arroyo & Newgrave Magazine
La Catrina by Guadalupe Posada: A female skeleton with the chapeau and dress of the 19th century grande dame; represents death which can catch you any where and anytime.
Along with dia de los muertos, there is a saint called La Santisima Muerte aka Saint Death.
Italy has their own version called “Il Giorno dei Morti” or the Italian Memorial Day. Tradition dictates that one bake cookies, called Ossa dei Morti, the Bones of the Dead, for the occasion. **also**In Europe there is the tradition of La Danse Macabre, (my very very old site) also called Dance of Death, La Danza Macabra, or Der Totentanz, is a late-medieval allegory on the universality of death. La Danse Macabre consists of the personified Death leading a row of dancing figures from all walks of life to the grave—typically with an emperor, king, pope, monk, youngster, beautiful girl, all in skeleton-state. They were produced under the impact of the Black Death, that reminded people of how fragile their lives were and how vain the glories of earthly life were. The imagery of le danse macabre was brought to life in 1538 with a series of woodcuts by Hans Holbein the Younger. The most popular danse macabre are found inside french and german churches. Memento mori is a Latin phrase that means "Remember that you must die." It names a genre of artistic creations that vary widely from one another, but which all share the same purpose, which is to remind people of their own mortality. Some musical interpretations of Le Danse Macabre include Camille Saint-Saëns Danse macabre In G Minor, Op. 40 (my fave) and Franz Liszt's Hungarian Fantasy: Totentanz. For those that interested in the cultural history of Halloween and Death check this book out: " Death Makes a Holiday: A Cultural History of Halloween" written by notable Horror and Film Historian David J. Skal. Also if you can get your hands on this book "The Dance of the Death and the Macabre Spirit of European Literature" by Leonard P. Kurtz.

6:03p This Friday, October 30, 2009:
For those of you who know Paige and Badger - they, along with mates Thomas and Gavin make up the band called After The Apex.
They will be performing this Friday, Devil's Night, at Blake's in Berkeley! This is their second live performance since the dissolution of Black Snake Moan.

And, apparently there is a theme to the night at Blake's...zombies!

Come on out and support your friends! Support local music! Get your metal on! Tell those bitches to hurry up and get in the studio so they can take down those damned demos from their myspace page!
